Proving you don’t need big horsepower to have a rapid track car, Brent Coleman’s Tarmac rally Subaru STi recorded consistent quick times at the recent SubiNats at held at Phillip Island.
This WRX STi is the factory Subaru motorsport only JDM NR4 version, meaning it can only be rally registered and is built to compete in GT4 class racing. However these cars are basically the same as the road going version just with additional safety upgrades. Power wise the car is very close to stock. An Emtron computer sees moderate power of around 260hp to all four wheels. This was enough, along with Brent’s great steering, to see the car finish in fourth place in the GT4 class at this year’s Targa Tasmania.
Even in Tarmac Rally trim, the Subaru recorded a strong lap time of the Phillip Island Grand Prix circuit.
