View Full Version : Australia's quickest street car 2009... confirmed
Hi Guys,
Street Car Superstars was held at WSID on Australia Day to try and find Australia's quickest street car, there was a mandatory 45km cruise, you had to run D.O.T tyre and the quickest ET on the day takes the crown.
Congrats to Mark Hayes for not only winning his class "street assisted" but for taking the crown with a 8.33 ET
here is the vid I took on the day

^^^ agree but what can you do all a pack of cock and bull if you ask me
Awesome time and a great car not taken anything away from it but you can't honestly call that the fastest street car..
I wasn't aware that NOS had become street legal thses days:)

Rob Godfrey in TOYTON won the Aspirated street car class, both are genuine street cars, in race mode or not.

The word genuine makes me laugh every time.
It may have been genuine at one stage, but be serious, not any longer.
One tough 3/4 car yes. Always has been.

Jesus guys its the term street car only until they make the cruise go through an rta inspection station i guess the wheelie bars, dropped pipes and et streets will remain part of the class.
Tough as shit cars and guys with balls the size of my head driving them will get my ass in a seat and keep me plugging away at my car for years to come.
I,m no Mark hayes biggest fan or anything but hey he plays by the rules that are set and beats all others there then all the best too him and everyone else i say.
Just my 2 cents worth.
Cheers GONZO
Awesome car m8 great stuff on the win keeps me inspired :D

Looked like a good day out, nice work on the video ;)
was running strong, consistent 1.48-1.49 60ft with 11.1s
i actually qualified for the final but holed a piston at the 1000ft mark racing that Fiat 124, went through for the win but couldnt continue, B@gger
bore looks Ok, should be up and running in a week or two
hang on? do you know what a piston is or what bore looks like ???:D:D
The event is still a great concept regardless on what people consider a street car, everyone has different views I know and that's great.
It would be good to see these types of events grow and get a wide variety of entrants.
Reminds me of the Drag Week concept in the USA

"Whenever you call a radically fast car a street car, some people are going to take issue with it. That happened with Terzich's Camaro after it won the Unlimited class in the '07 running of HOT ROD Drag Week(tm). Whiners pointed out the tall induction system, removal of the blower belt for the drive, and several other nitpicky details as proof that it's not a streetable car. But nuts to you people. This thing drove 873 miles on public roads (pulling a trailer with no outside assistance), ripped off at least one 7-second quarter-mile pass at every track, and looked like a show car the whole time. There is no doubt in our minds that this is a street car, albeit a very radical one-and one of the quickest of all time until maybe this year's event."

Both the Hayes car & Toyton are excellently built vehicles & in my opinion have earned their place at the top of their class. Saw TOYTON take out the Summernats Grand Champion last year & returned this year as the Street Machine of the Year with a storming dyno run. Mark Hayes has always presented an immacculately prepared, strong car. Well done Guys, this makes the opposition step it up & that is good for racing......:D

that was a great day i always enjoy watching big power cars skate down the track on radials. does anyone know anything about the silver supra? i didn't see him do any clean passes but was still pulling around 150mph through the traps.
So some dont think that hayes and godfreys cars are real street cars
It would be so much more exciting to watch a bunch of 14 & 15 second commerdores and falcons wouldnt it....

no it wouldnt but there are some real genuine streeters that dont bother with these comps because the rules are bull. Wheelie bars parachute and nos are not street legal therefore its not a real streetcar class taking nothing away from mark hayes and rob godfrey but lets get real and make a consistent set of rules that comply with street rules, you can pisalidis camaro for having some bullshit front end that doesnt comply with the rules and yet nos wheelie bars and parachute are ok for fastest street car rules come on guys get real.

yeah i agree with you !!! marks car is engenierd but for the motor not the wheel bars and chute it will always be a hard class to put rules on just cause somthing drives down the street and gets away with it make it a street car i love marks car if it didnt have the wheeli bars on it i would probs look the other way

wheel bars and a parachute is a for safety my cortina had them and nos i bet i have done more street driving then most people on fullboost hazy car is the same if not more street car then what gasdup was
and pistol car has nothing to do with fast street car thats mod street rules to different class

surely if you have a street car but it runs faster than 140mph you can put a chute on it and if your car makes enough power to lift the front right up you can have wheelie bars. What do people want, cars smashing them selves with big wheelstands and if they get down the track drive into the catch net at the end........ not very smart. It is called safety as psidup said. That is the main rule, your car must be safe.

not talkin about pistols car in street class but they dont accept his car in mod street due to front end issues is that correct and as far as wheelie bars because its monos ever heard of pedalling. true street car rules should be race it as you drove to the track pipes on no nos no bars then you can say its the fastest street car in Aus. no one is disputing its driven on the street just race it the way u drive it on the street.
just my opinion but i knowalot of people agree.
old 59 u musnt have gone fast then if u are complaning about paracutes and wheelie bars do u want them to make a class just for u so u can race with standard v6 commodores
a prep track isnt the street anyway it shouls be held at sandown or eastern creek were its like the rd then u woudnt need wheelie bars but i would use a paracute as i have ended up in the sand trap at sandown cose i coudnt slow down
[QUOTE=psidup;39170]old 59 u musnt have gone fast then if u are complaning about paracutes and wheelie bars do u want them to make a class just for u so u can race with standand commodores
they already have its called SUPER STREET and im very happy there for now.
so i guess if thats how you think and obvioiusly how it is i would like to see Mincer put on some Mickey Thompson ETs and blow the whole field away seeing he is registered and all.

Promoters put on these events and we enter our cars in whatever class our car fits into! If hazy and bwarnd and mincer meet the criteria of the promoters rules, then let em go nuts. Who cares what is and isnt a streetcar or racecar, its all about having fun and enjoying your racing and putting on a show. The class or event you enter is irrelavent.
Could be like the yanks & call it the worlds quickest street car.
More fitting would be Australias quickest pro street car.

Easternats - what a joke!
Don't give that tosser any more money so you can get screwed and put into a burnout lane while a 15sec gemini with 253 on 7 cylinders gets lane choice for blowing off the promoter!
Paz - don't compare that crap to Princess Hwy :)
hay steve is youre air con working good at home we know everthing:):):)
Ok looks like a few boys are stirred up so ill clear a few things up:
1. Im all for aftermarket K members in Mod & Pro st, i want to buy
a mod st car from the US but they all have aftermarket K members,
anyone with an aftermarket K member can run this event, just not
APSA events.
2. My car has no chance of being involved in the Street car Superstars
and i dont remember ever saying i was entering. But i did do a
16km round trip in it for my wedding, Parachute, Wheelie bars & Slicks.
And i also drive it to my local Pub the locals love it but my engine
builder hates it.:) And if i really wanted to i could do the 45km drive
EASY.
3. You can run a Turbo or supercharger on low boost on the street so
Whats the problem with giving your engine a sniff of NOS when you
get to the track.
4. ANDRA states 140mph plus you must run a chute. Wheelie bars is a no
Brainer look what happens to some cars that dont have them, I caused
$4500 in damage when mine snapped causing massive front end damage
when it came down hard.
5. Drewy (LC 434) cant wait for the next bonfire mate no one can get em
goin like you and Jay....;)
All I know is I did the 45km cruise with Mark, Rob, John Habib etc and they all did it with ease. You guys can have the street car argument all you want but Mark and Dina looked a hell of a lot more comfortable and happy in their seven-second street car than I did in my eleven-second one. Their stereo works better too!

That exactly it people seem to complain for the sake of it how many have a car like this any way? I was a competitor at streetcar super stars and cruised behind mark and rob when we pulled into macca's rod did a lap of the car park and then parked right beside a hyw patrol car when i asked him what was he thinking he said why not its rego'd and engineered and beside i got nothin to hide! If thats not a real streetcar what is chute or no chute some people need to wake up!
