As a keen spectator & Drag Racing enthusiast for a number of years this was not a bad event overall BUT as far as the venue & officials go..... alot of improvement needed....
Calder Park is now a long way behind the interstate venues of WSID & Willowbank & that is a shame for Victoria.
Many cars were turning the tyres off the line & not once did I see an official decide to spray the track to try to improve it. The return road fiasco that saw LONG lines of cars needs to be well & truly sorted, the PA in the pits was non existent, the 3rd round of eliminations were cancelled (?) & as usual it cost a MINT to even eat out there.
The twin Turbo dragster the blew a turbo off the line was eventually pushed out of the way by its driver & 1 of his crew whilst the 2 OFFICIALS stood at the fence officially being useless - well done guys!
I hope the competitors & spectators enjoyed the event & will continue to come back to Calder.

firstly id like to take this oppurtunity to thank everybody that supported our event.from our sponsors to competitors to the spectators.

congratulations to all our class winners and our grand champion ENNIO MAROCCO who walked away with the $20000.00.a real credit to him as he was super consistant and proved to be the better racer on the day.

thank you to all those who supported the buy back option and the charity wild card.with the help of some of our sponsors and some racers we were able to raise a whopping $17400.00 for the royal childrens hospital appeal.a special thanks to greg (the MAULER) who took the challenge to race me and put up $500.00 for charity.

thank you to nino cavallo for giving up his spot in the top 8 for charity.we auctioned his spot and raised a further $1600.00.so once again thank you to nino cavallo.

congratulations to greg klapsos also for winning the 68 impala wagon, couldnt of gone to a nicer bloke.

thank you to all at calder park.thanks to admin, carmel ,robin, nez and mark cicluna for doing a great job.we were all under pressure and you all pulled through.thanks to bob jane for giving us a venue to race at.

special thanks to all that made the trek from interstate to support our event.overall it was successful day.if i have forgotten anybody i apologize.we at eXesive motorsports hope everybody had a great days racing a hope to put another event on in the near future with prize money unheard of in this country.

Well done to Dom and Pete and all the other guys and girls behind the eXesive crew and the Calder Park crew, thanks for putting on a event for us victorians and thanks to the interstaters for supporting it. The money raised will go to a good cause in the Royal Childrens Hospital.

Yeah there might have been a few hiccups and the start line not the best (cars turning tyres ) but all in all in was a great event and can only get bigger and better for the next one.

Congratulations to all the winners.

Firstly i would like to say i had a ball on saturday. It was my first time out in nearly 2 years, to come out and win Nostalgia was a bonus for me. I just wanted to go out and have fun and run an 8, which i did against Graeme Cooper. What a way to get it against the bricklayer on a double breakout win. Just want to say thanks to Dom and Pete and Exesive Motorsports for a great meet. Next for me is to get the Big Black Fairlane into the Pro Street Unblown Top 10, and mix it with the small cars that dominate the list. Once again thanks boys i had a ball!!!

Had a ball, hadn't had a skid on Calder in about 20yrs. Great to catch up with guys/gals i havn't seen in ages (unfortunately we're a few years older) Melbourne/Calder was drag race central back when i lived there,it sadden's me to see it has skipped a generation but hopefully it's not too late to turn it around.
Anyone have any pics of the PROCOMP cars?

Was a pretty good meeting. But the track on friday night was way better than the saturday. Track was absoluteley shit on saturday. It should of been prepped on saturday. Alot of people were having trouble with no traction off the line.

The track for the first couple of hours was good on saturday, i managed to net a 0.00 60ft  From then on it turned to crap, So not only did i spin all the way though 1st in the eliminations (non transbraked car) but had to run in the 11.00+ catagory because someone stuffed my entry up. Add to this the diabolical organisation from the calder staff, most of which have been stated above, along with the fact that the drivers breif ended no more than 10 minutes before racing was to begin and no one had any idea what class was going first.. are you serious?
All in all i got 4 passes and 2 of which where at partial throttle due to class restrictions, $300 worth? not quite.

;) clearly it was a sarcastic stab at the fact the 60ft sensors weren't working.

I would however like to say I am not that bitter about the event as a whole it was a good day all in all, these things really put a dampener on my day, but I do appriciate the amount of effort put in by eXesive and the boys, these events don't just happen by themselves. I have addressed my concerns with Dom and now aired my opinion here for the reason that I feel this feedback is vital in making the event better for next time.

seems all you guys can do is critisize you probably werent even there if you were you would notice that a few people ran pbs hey ali with the black capri went 8.20 170mph 1.30 sixty on 10.5 inch tyre with a dirty old leaf spring so how bad could the track be and also lets not forget that it was raining for two days straight before the weekend

While we're jumping to conclusions can we assume you were a spectator and not a driver, because you quoted someone elses time and not your own? yet you suggest we weren't even there after I stated my passes and attended the drivers brief. Yes there were some PB's, but not until late in the night when the track came good, by which time most of us had our cars on the trailer.
Perhaps if you were actually out on the track racing you could comment on the track...

20-11-08, 09:37 AM
I can assure you the track conditions had nothing to do with the 8.20. If the track was up to it perhaps we may have seen the first ever 7 sec pass in mod st unblown... Think about it...

I was out in my Fairlane, PROZB, and i thought the track wasnt that bad all day. Yes the track got better that night but i hooked up all day. 9.0's all day then 8.90,s at night. I know i have a 4 link car but you look at the other guys out there with 4 link cars and alot of them had issues getting traction. How much of this is due to the track is debatable, i think alot of the cars just didnt have the setup to get down the track. look at the demaj boys, 8.01 PB middle of the day. Yes probably would have run a 7 but you work with the cards that are dealt and some did it better than others. For Ali to get some sort of traction with leaf springs and 1000+hp means car setup was more of an issue than the track. Thats just my opinion

Yes but when u have wheels on it as big as u have u should get traction. There were heaps of guys not getting traction. They were running like 5mph slower and up to 1/2 second slower.

To the guys at exesive motorsport i'm glad to see some people where happy with the meeting.
Peter i have given you more than enough time to call me back with the rusults of the investigations i brought forward,as you said to me "THE HORSE HAS BOLTED" SORRY I'M JUST GETTING MINE OUT OF THE STABLE.
Many people complained about not hearing the call for the next rounds of racing and where turned away on the day.Explain this the true street cars where to be at vpw at 7.30 my car was so why was FAIRXW allowed to race when it showed up at 8.20,50 minutes late?
In your rules you say full exhausts and radial tyres,my car had full exhuast and radial tyres(4 mufflers with tail pipes exiting the rear of thecar)so why where FAIRXW and TOYTON permitted to race when the both clearly did not have full exhuasts?you picked on a car that had a different grill in it and made it change class.
In your rules you say that cars must remain in same trim as inspected a vpw.Explain why TOYTON was not disqaulified immediatly when he fitted his parachute made a pass then the officals have told him to pull it off.(great for a car that runs 160+mph for safety)
On the day my car qualified number 2 and TOYTON number 1. Why was my car made to run TOYTON in the semi final? Number 1 and 2 cannot race each other until the final. FAIRXW got a bye run.
How about this i am a very fair person i gave you an the option to give me the answers to all of the above without having to be popsted on a website like this, you chose not to as a minimum my car was compliant with all of your rules and regulations yet i get nothing. Thanks for the oppuruntity to race for the 20 grand as well come on guys fair is fair.

Had a great day
Top pics Luke, man it took me an hour to look at them all :D You're knucles musta been draggin on the ground after shooting them all

It's good that people value this type of event and feel confident enough that the organisers (Cheers Pete & all @ exessive) won't be turned off by their comments and will be back soon with another event. If not as good, hopefully bigger and better.

Drag racing has missed a generation (probably because it crawled up its own arse). By publicising this type of event to the new breed while keeping the politics managed the sport can only grow. (Maybe MMM next time?)

Keep up the good work guys (some I know, others not yet). Thankyou

And to all those that complained about the pit calls, I listened in on my radio all day (88FM) and didn't miss a one. Its not that hard, really ;)

I raced in Super Street, and I was made to park my tow car in the thunderdome. Therefore I could not here any radio. I didn't miss any calls, but I was always walking back and forward between my pit and the dummy grid to make sure I didnt miss a round. I really enjoyed the meeting, but didn't enjoy the lack of a suitable PA system.

PS the track was OK for me, ran a PB and the 60 times were good.

first of all if you're going to pick on people's cars how about questioning your reverse scoop height and your rag tyres???. It doesn't say anywhere in the rules that the cars had to leave vpw at 7.30, why were you in a hurry or something to get to the track? with the exhaust it doesn't say you have to run with tailpipes. It only says full exhaust {which could mean that that is FAIR XW and TOYTON's full exhaust}. come on mate it sounds like you wanna run by yourself in the class, your car wasn't perfect either, maybe that's why pistel pete never got back to you...

Sad to hear that you are still going on about this Brett Whittle....

YEa you did call me two times, and go over the same points each time, and I did call you once as well. So get your story accross accurately! Dont make out I didnt take your calls, or didnt call you back.

Ill go over the whole lot again, since you cant get over not being the fastest car in your class, getting buy runs, beating your competitors, or winning your class or the meeting.

At the assembly point in the morning, there was no time cut off, and I dont know where youre getting your story from... I did ask everyone to be ther at 7:30am with the view that everyone should be there by 8am (i know what racers are like) and then be off by 8:15 or so.... What your issue with that?

Full exhaust? As I said to you again and again, all cars were/are required to run mufflers and exhaust, and not phased by tailpipes... You can have one two, three or 10 mufflers...

Toyton1, was reminded of the rules, and to choose between running the class or running high top speeds. He complied by removing his chute and then run 138 mph the run after that. In hindsight, he should have been allowed him to run the chute anyway...for safety reasons...

You didnt get the second buy run because the cars werent seeded, as you were told by the officials on the night when you kicked up a big stink about it.

Dont go twisting the story by saying I didnt call you back,,,as we had at least three discussions about this, and gave you more than enough of my time, and you still cant accept:

1/ the race is over
2/ you didnt win
3/ i cant turn back time
4/ you wernt fast enough on the day
5/ the officials told you that you wernt entitled to a buy run

I did say the horse has bolted, as its over, and we cant get everyone back there, stage it all the same for you to have what you have been dreaming of - but as i told you - I cant turn back time!

Next time it will be diferent, all Real street cars will require Engineers reports, use Supplied fuel (regular unleaded, not PULP), and only run engines that were produced in that car, as a minimum...

So im sorry to hear you're sill stuck on this and hope you find the courage to be able to move on...

bout time!

Although here a few small issues that may arise.

regular unleaded-im all for it, but if ive got half a tank of "rocket fuel" will you just top it up with 91? Or make me drain the tank?

Will additives like nulon be allowed? If not, how will it be monitored? If its allowed, whats the point of standard fuel?

Engineers reports sounds great!

-more than 15% capacity over standard, need paperwork
-mt radials, bf radials, not legal in this country
-exhaust not exiting past rear of vehicle (unless a ute, or coupe with sealed rear firewall) , not legal, need paperwork for firewall.
-9" diff in anything other than a foulcan, need paperwork
-bigger turbo,need paperwork
-rollcages, need paperwork
-front runners, not legal

And so forth. Itll be a real small class if you adhere to the letter of the law, hardly any of those cars in "real" street are roadworthy, and engineered, as raced.

If i may suggest?

-front tyres MUST be 70% width of rear, as the VSI states
-no fibreglass
-mandatory air cleaner while racing
-cages,chassis mods, non factory engines require engineers or proof of legality(and thats all)

-because i own a holden, id like to see FACTORY ENGINE CASTINGS ONLY, at least until dart cast me up a block thatll go 400+ cubes in a 308 sized block..

Make the cruise through real streets, minimum 35ks, and roll them straight into stage for round one.

No cool down, no refuel, no whinging.

Its a street car, or it aint...

FWIW, i dont want to see a 15 second commodore win real street either, but the "street" and "legal" side of some of the cars in that class is highly dubious IMO.

Im more than happy to assist any way I can with that particular class, rather than throwing stones from my glass house.

But ill never enter "real" street as the rules stand now.

Yeah the real street class does need some clarification for next time. Maybe a check list of FAIR CRITERIA to meet. I think personally that NO PULP is a bit bias towards the N/A cars, due to tuning reqs for forced induction cars..

Most of Green HJ's argument is on the money. His last sentence is right on the money IMO..... "Its a street car aint it?"

Maybe an Australian version of what the do in the US. Drive a 30mile preset street coarse, then roll straight out to race. Straight off the street. No dropping exhausts, no allowing cool down periods for the cars. That will definately sort the wheat from the chaff.... Unfortunately DOT approved tyres are legal over there, so maybe an exemption be made for them to be used here.

Thats my opinion anyway

first of all if you're going to pick on people's cars how about questioning your reverse scoop height and your rag tyres???. It doesn't say anywhere in the rules that the cars had to leave vpw at 7.30, why were you in a hurry or something to get to the track? with the exhaust it doesn't say you have to run with tailpipes. It only says full exhaust {which could mean that that is FAIR XW and TOYTON's full exhaust}. come on mate it sounds like you wanna run by yourself in the class, your car wasn't perfect either, maybe that's why pistel pete never got back to you...

our rag tyres were the 1 pistol gave us the number to buy then if u read the rules it does say 8am sharp and does say full exaust in the rules diff dumpers are not full

So im sorry to hear you're sill stuck on this and hope you find the courage to be able to move on...

well before the meeting i pazzo rang dom and asked him about the exaust he said to me has to be full exaust tail pipes everthing in youre rules it states be ready to leave 8am sharp

hope no offence is taken to franky and the boys and toy ton both very tough cars

beside that the meeting and the cars were good hope u guys have another 1 which will only get better and better

Ok i will take it on the chin all i wanted to to was to bring up a few issues i had with the way the meeting was run on the day and ask for a few questions to be answered. This is not or never was a personal attack on any one and never will be.i have known Frank the owner of FAIRXW for many years and is an absolute gentleman of the sport.
A full exhuast is as such a full exhuast and how about next time when it is brought to the officals attention an answer would be nice other than a shrug of the shoulders.
In the spirit of the sport for a well deserved charity how about you guys get it right next time.
Pete you did call me back and i thankyou for that although you said you would talk to me after you had your meeting with the officials ect on tuesday.:):):):):).
