sweet ride champ!
give us some more detail of the car. brakes? diff? power? qtr times? wheels?
have you considered a XR6 turbo engine?
would you sell the car as is?
yeah its for sale in the sale section of this forum with heaps of spares, dont get me wrong they are a bullet proof motor but i just needed a change. when the car was running back 6 years ago i had a standard FJ with t3/t4 and 363 injectors and the car went 13.6@113mph on bald 17 inch tires which wasnt bad considering it was a basic set up

the car isnt for sale but the running gear is,so far the car has 290mm rotors and AU calipers on the front, and xf disks and calipers on the back,
the diff is a shortened borg warner with full spool and 28 spline moser axles,
the only mod thats been done on the shell of the car is a mini tub so i could fit the 255/35/18 tires under the arch

why would you bother when you can make more than enough power with a au engine:)
bout time u saw the light and put a 6cyl in it, hahaha

Pffffffffffttttttttttttttt... You crack me up John... AU?? ED Mate! Either way... I hear ya.. I think The Barra (fat motors) are over rated. Dont get me wrong they are a very good engine, just I think the SOHC yeilds better results, expecially in the right hands..
WILDTC - Thats a sweet looking corty mate. Whats the color called? its horn... Also, how do you clean up your bumpers? they look better than new! Good move going to a 4.0L, you wont regret it. TRUST ME! Ooh

i too own a tc corty and only considered powering it with a xr6 turbo motor if i were goin 6 cylinders.
unless you can convince me otherwise????
need suggestions!;)

Well for starters the BA engine is a lot more difficult to fit into the engine bay. I have fitted 1x SOHC 4.0L into a TE cortina (my car TE-PSI) which is turbo. And I have also helped an old mate fit a DOHC Barra into his TE (ICE JET). From experience of doing both. I can say the SOHC is far easier. Both engines make fantastic power.
The DOHC is only of real advantage in stock form, due to the 4v head. But if you were to get a decent porting job done on a SOHC, then you would find the difference is barely noticable. There are a few other things to mention, but most people wouldnt understand, or be prepared to spend $$$ on. ie; Valve train symetry, rod ratio, piston speed, harmonics etc..
Personally due to the huge availability of the SOHC, and cheaper cost, thats where i would start. My first 4.0L (320K clunker) cost me $200 from a wrecker, and went hard in the corty. I made over 180RWKW with that alone. Just something for you to think about.
Either way you go guys, its worth the effort if you take this path.

well how does 520rwkw on lpg and 30psi sound in a daily driver thats what my 4lt does:) :)
don't get me wong xr6t engine is good but would be more difficult to fit and it wouldn't be worth the effort
both good engines but for the power needed to run the times Vince wants the au 4lt would be more than enough..

Great work John. I wasnt intending to discredit your great work. I just found from my own experience that the above mentioned engine works well for my needs.
Sorry if you took that post the wrong way.
