Just thought I'd start a thread about the best invention from mazda, the RX3!!!
Just picked up a Rx3 with a series 4 13bt the other day and will be posting some links with pictures. If anyone has any stories/ideas/tips it would be an awesome start to the topic!

OK, I'll start. FLASHBACK TO 1987Bought an s1 10a rx3 4 door that was going to be used as a drag car for o'halloran hill TAFE students but it was left out 1 night an the whole car was trashed by vandals. Smashed the w'screen and drivers window and dented evry panel in including the roof. Picked it up 4 200 clams and took her home. Coz I had a '75 808 as a donor car with a fresh moss green paint job(spew)that my dad did(good job-baaaad colour) but a week b4 we were sitting at the traffic lights on port road in SA when some pissminder slammed the rear in at about 80k's:eek: converting it to a hatchback in a fraction of a second(funny how accidents go in slow mo yet you still can't avoid them, hey.) Anyhoo, I replaced the windows, and pushed every ding out by hand, gotta love coke can material, which got the car so straight you wouldn't know it happened in the 1st place!. Hammered that thing, doing 160-170 down Sherriffs road b4 the expressway was thought of and 1/2 way down the skin of the bonnet separated from the frame work, flying straight over the roof and scaring that bejeezus outta me. I pulled over to the side of the road 4-500 metres up the road(had 2 slow down safely! lol) chucked a uey and found the bonnet skin had already partially rolled itself up when it hit the deck, so I grabbed it 'n rolled it the rest of the way and threw it in the back seat and proceeded home.2 days l8er,that thing howled like the hounds of hell on the T junction of two side streets down the road from where I used to live in Reynella in an area with new roads and no housing yet, after my oldest brother put down 4 litres of oil(Y 4 LITRES? aSK HIM. bUGGERED IF i KNOW? LOL) Gave her abit then dumped the clutch and had the widdle tener reving to about 11 1/2-12g's in 1st, flat changed to second, back up to 11 1/2g's and juuuuuust held it there for a little while. Smoke everywhere car had no intention of going anywhere except for the arse end wanting to slip down the slope which counter steering sorted. Flat changed her in2 3rd and took my foot off the brake and just let her rip up the road. No probs 3rd gear, up the road, two wheels for 5 house blocks with out a word of a lie(Remember lots and lots of oil over those rears, lol) Took her up the road and around the block to keep the engine going for a while and after she had what I thought was enough of a recovery time, took her home and shut her off. Next morning went to fire her up and whaddayaknow? She wouldn't start. Turned over but wouldn't fire, so I guess I shagged the apex seals or corner or both and screwed the eccentric shaft(I spose so, didn't know jack about them so don't know exact damage. Looked OK??). The 10a had then become my learning tool to find how the engine that theoratically shouldn't run, does. Good ol' Dr Wankel. You made a rocket, nothing like the acceleration curve of a rota(well, except 4 a turbo or centrisuper!)..lol Bought a s2(?)1st of the single dizzy 13b's? with just an extended port, bought an IDA and an rx5 5 speed coz the stupid TQ5er's bite the big 1 for some1 who likes to flat change...lol
Hope it was good for a larf. I look back on it with a huge grin.......:D

That's one hell of a story man haha, really enjoyed reading it :P
I've heard a lot of stories from people of the RX3 Era, but nothing like a instant hatch back :D
Also a pat on the back for banging it all out by hand, thats all dedication haha.
But A nice way to start the thread, thanks heaps :P
Hope i'll be able to share some stories like that when im older (Minus the hatch back conversion + the 4 litres of oil o.O)

Hope that helps if u cant get it to work ask KYPREO the admin to guide u through it.

Hey the car is going great!! better than the day I picked it up.
It is definatly worth the price I got it for, there are 1 or 2 places with very small rust, but some parts the rust was starting but I took care of that =)
Yes the engineering certificate was legit its been approved and I also have the recipts for every modification thats been done to it :)

what do u think of this one brap attack? its now 7,700 with non rego or engineering certificate bit of rust and slipping clutch and its not genuine, this is the one i turned down i would pay 6,800 for it. It would be like 2500 for certificate bout 1500 to fix rust and 500 for rego and 500 for clutch and 560 for insurance so 13260 for it to to be fixed up and legally on the road a bit much for an 808 quite frankly.Your so lucky to have snapped up that original rx3 with little rust and engeering certificate for 9,000;)

One thing that would really put me off this car would be the lack of engineering cirtificate, you really cant be sure how much it would cost to get it registered. Also depends if they did any of their own handy work on the car. The rust is pretty bad aswell, engine cant really tell, only a picture and what the seller has written. If your shopping on the internet for cars use the internet for a reference to how the car looks on the outside and how the engine bay looks. Car may have not be tuned properly, running too lean or rich, might need a few bits and pieces.
When i picked my car up it wouldn't like to sit on a certain speed so I got it tuned and now its purrrrrrfect. But your best bet is to check it out, if you can't then it might be a risk.
Personally, its A LOT for an 808, for that much you can get a nice rx3 =) just have to be patient =P I was originally looking for a S3 Rx7 for about 4 months then I saw this rx3 haha :)
But yea, if you can get some detailed information on the car or better yet go see it because you really dont know what your buying if you havent seen it :D
