Just heard smokin joe hit the wall at wsid tonight and the whole front is mangled.
Not good at all,i was looking forward to him smashing the yanks 2j time with the 2000 horsepower motor up and running to full potential.
Hopefully this wont be a major set back for joe and the team.

That is bad news!!
Looking at the pics, he lucky it didn't roll, but it looks like a seriously BIG hit
Lets hope he can get back to racing soon
so lucky it didnt roll on top of the fence would have totally destroyed the car and serious injury may have resulted very lucky indeed

I think they only have two weeks in which to have the car ready to be shipped over here to NZ,so unlikely they will make the trip over. The promoters have a few overseas cars lined up as back up,will have to wait and see who they are.
From Nero (Titan)
Joe is ok, they got the car and they have already started fixing it. We're overnighting all the parts we can to them to get the car up and running. We are actually building part of the front now, and it will be done in a big hurry and they will be back on the track quickly.
The Black Celica will likely hit the AU shores soon, but that was planned regardless....

Very very lucky.... hit the (bullshit) paint strip past the xmas tree & this has completely unloaded the left side. Surely this painted area needs to be removed!!

It appeared he gave it another boot after it first got out of shape, perhaps backing off the first time might have saved it from hitting the wall as hard? It's only my observation from where I was sitting.

If you are on the painted stripes you are so far out of shape your run is over, Joe should of lifted, no ifs or buts, thats why the video shows PAC lifting after getting out of the groove, they learnt the hard way as well with these cars if you dont lift it will bite you. They are basically Pro Stock cars, you cant man handle them they will flip over in a heart beat.
He clearly puts his foot down again when he should have just let it go,with that much power once you get out of the groove you just have to back off and bring the car back in line he lost more than just the race doing what he did.

Joe was out of the groove, however if the crapy painted stripe finished at the Christmas tree, it wouldnt have unloaded the LHS as it did, and Joe probably would not have hit the wall. And the guy beside the wall (who nearly had his head taken off) probably wouldn't be still emptying out his pants.
Joe will be back, faster than ever..
there are no if's in life champ
if my aunty had balls she would be my uncle.
this can happen at a race track and all people who strap on a helmet and race at one know that.
anyone with an ANDRA license also knows that as soon as you touch the white paint your DISQ and race is over.
the car went hard right both runs at heathcote and he shut it down wisely, even wiser put it back in the truck and left by lunch time.
joe had a fugg up, thats racing. im sure he will be back whether in this car or another, shame about the car, but joe's safe and thats the main thing.

I agree, I was at heathcote I also saw the car turn right hard. I'm aware of the ANDRA rules after 30 plus years involvement in the sport, You cannot touch the paint .my point was the paint stripe which is the for decoration doesn't need to be there. Racing isn't all roses, we all know that. Joe being Safe is the most important point.

The paint I am referring to is not the white centreline. If you look at the footage again you will see that yes he is out of the groove & moves onto the RED extended painted area past the tree, which in my simple opinion should be removed as I feel it has contributed to his accident.
Whether Joe should have stayed on or got off the gas is not for me to comment on.
Surely directly after the tree it should simply be all racetrack with a single painted centreline only - wouldn't this be safer? Simple elimination of a dangerous area thats all. Not brain surgery.
if you are over there you are allready in so much shit cause you are at such and angle the paint doesnt matter. it didnt conritbute to the accident. via Po Tung of GAS the car didnt have enought counter weight in the front to correspond with the extra 600 hp the car makes. usually when the car steps sideways Joe can drive out of it, thats what he has done with the normal 1400 hp hes had. this time it didnt work.

A few drivers have had steering problems over the years after they increase the power so dramatically. Hard lesson to learn.
I positive Joe will be back faster than ever shortly.
WISD should still remove the paint past the Christmas Tree, as it's shiny paint ,which has no traction, and as Drag Racing is the Traction Attraction, it's serves no purpose.

The paint has been there since Day 1 at WSID, and it takes alot of effort to even touch it, I doubt even a handful of cars have managed to in the 5 years the place has been open to get a piece of the center paint. And as Shane said if you do hit it your run is going so bad that its already over. The paint had nothing to do with the crash, Joe was still into the throttle way past the paint, had he lifted he wouldnt of crashed paint or no paint. Hell if he was at Willow he would of hit a great bloody big steel sign that they stick in that spot and Motorplex in Perth have the track painted the same as WSID

I was on the start line the paint had nothing to do with it, As cackling pipes said. If it was a prob im pretty sure they would remove it.
if he had lifted the incident wouldnt have happened thats about the extent of it to blame the track is rediculous he will be back and has probably learnt a lesson from this
