View Full Version : Drag warz
Whats the verdict on the sydney event...All the cars that were there were great, and a lot of the big cars were there, the disapointing thing was the lack of cars and supporters!ANY one reading this has an interest in drags,so why do we,they, you, not support this event. The markrting or just a bad date? Andra V Sports compact!.They both need support, everyone wants it to go ahead. Its in our hands, and im not putting shit on anyone, but as in most things numbers talk, cheers

in all honesty i had no idea it was even on!! and i still dont even know what it is!!?!
is it one of andra's main sport compact meetings? They keep bloody changing the names of these things.
whats more, powercruise was on in qld (cancel out mazfix/dyson cars from jambo) and all performance challenge was on in vic (cancel out rajab/dalton cars from jambo), so i suppose there was no real incentive to travel to wsid for interstater's on the back of probably the biggest and best jamboree EVER.
Exactly 3 big events,on the same weekend,no real advertising for the sydney event and no real uniformed direction. What do you do when the governing body only has a two round championship?Sports compact and Andra events will only go ahead with support, saturday did not get that, mabe Andra was hoping for something more.We need more events like the jambo, mabe someone has idears on that. Now i know were the other cars were, thanks gronk, mabe a for round championship, droping your worst event, ebetween three states, ending at jambo?

Last night i rode past WSID, subs blaring of course, and i saw the adverts there around the property... but bloody hell... first time ive seen ANYTHING advertised for it... i reckon it was bad advertising on their part personally...
also, on my way back past WSID it smelt like diff oil or something really foul like that... did anyone blow any engines or diffs?

The Car i work on was down there for one thing. To retain his FWD Street Tyre Record @ a ANDREA Event. Team Toyo Suzuki Swift GTI Turbo.
Ran a Best Time of 11.2 @ 135.47MPH on Toyo Street Radials. I wasn't there due to Work Stuff i had on up here.
But i do agree with other stuff on in other States that have been planned for quite a while. Not sure how long Drag Warz had been penciled in but we didn't hear about it until a month or so ago.
Cheers Brad

The event has been on the calender for ages way before any of those other events were planned, the signs someone spoke of on the containers outside the track have been up for 6 weeks, the event has featured on the WSID website for months (still is there), not to mention the ANDRA Sport Compact site over 500 entries were mailed out, entries forms and flyers were sitting next to the sign up sheets at every WSID street meet for the past 2 months, there maybe a breakdown in communication somewhere, suggestions on what else could be done?
WHy is there a 2 round championship, dont blame the governing body, blame the other tracks who dont want to run the events.
Somethings are in the works for the next event.

I have a print out of WSID calender from 2/7/06, which clearly shows Drag warz.
True drag racing enthusiasts would know where to look.
If i hadn't got sick and was well enough to race, I would have brought an additional 3 ' sport compact virgin' spectators.
spanky spanky spanky, just race your car,kep your virgins for the bedroom, only joking dude?

To be honest I only came down to Syd for drag warz because it was one of two events this year where Andra records can be set,I agree the advertising was very poor, hence the crowd was very poor and lack of interstate cars, well I would blame that on the lack of prize money.
The event itself was well run ,with nearly as many Andra staff as there was drivers!!!
Even if the money for a big advertising campaign is not there ,it wouldnt take much effort for a publicity team member to go on the twenty or so car related forums and drum up a bit of intrest prior to the event,I know I try and get the suzuki community interested in attending and over the last couple of years this has paid off with approx five or six regular suzuki swift entries and usually a crowd of guys off the forums turning up.It was great to see the vw/audi guys at wsid this time ,most of them were new to the sport and that is exactly what SC needs to target.
I think Andra handing over the advertising/running of the event to wsid is not the way to go,its already been seen they are not interested in SC events enough to publisise them properly.

A coupleof things, ANDRA didnt hand over the promotion/advertising, ANDRA are not allowed to promote/advertise any events its in their constitution, this all has to be done by the event promoters.
As for WSID promotion, they would of spent what they thought they would get back as it is a business and cant run at a loss, they ran radio ads and mag advertising and it was pushed at street meets, but look at events like compak attack even with Ray Box's publicity machine behind him the results werent much different, the last event barely had over 100 entries which included bikes and compact extreme,, the problem lies deeper than promotion.
WSID do care about SC, they ran PRWD cars at the last 3 Friday night street meets to drum up interest, you will see alot more promotion of SC cars come out of Fri night meets in the weeks to come on the ANDRA site, and they looking at some new ideas for the next round to get more interest. With such a huge base of SC in Sydney, they definetly want to tap the market, and they have got it a street meets, its just getting them to race.
Both you guys are right, sydney sc scene is there. The event was well run and we should have had more people racing, just look at the pbs....i guess we can only hope for more action on wed and fri nights

I was really looking forward to going to Drag Warz for many months prior to the event however had a birthday on both the Friday and Saturday nights and was unable to attend
And after hearing all the reports regarding the event afterwards i wasn't surprised about the turnout after seeing the lack of numbers on the entrants listing a few days before the event :(
