Hi all!

Im going to be in the market of buying a used/2nd hand car soon and i wanted to know if there is much performance difference between the Evo 7, 8 and 9.....

Should i get an Evo 7 and have some extra cash left for mods or just get the 8 or 9 and have no cash left??

Any advice is much appreciated!

Kegs.

My preference is to spend about 30K and find a decent 6.5 they are well known to be the most balls out model (they also look better than a 6). If not then I'd go for an 8 or 9. The 7 just looks weird, the bumpers are far too square. Take a close look at the differences in appearance b/w the models.

For more info, here are some forums to visit, I am sure there is tonnes of info about mechanicals in there.

whats your budget?
what do you want to achieve out of the car?

I agree with Geordie on the above.. however i reckon i would go an Evo 8.5 MR.. they are a 12 sec car straight from the factory!!!

limited edition and they look soo horn!

I would not say the 6.5 is the fastest maybe the AUS spec but they are costly the jap JDM may feel faster due to the close ratio gear box but do remember they have a smaller turbo then the GSR evo 6 it just all depends on what you want out of a car

I got to try a stock evo 7 GTA (auto), evo 8 (stock), 8MR (stock) and 8MR with some bolt-ons making a claimed 330whp (stock block).
Some Car dealers overseas are A LOT less anal about letting you test drive.

7 GTA wasn't too impressive - semi auto shifting lagged by about 1 to 2 seconds.

8 MR handles sharper and stiffer than the 8, but felt pretty much the same accelerating in a straight line - stock cars that is (the 330whp 8 MR was on a whole new level of fun).

I THINK the 8MR had a nicer interior than the 8...or maybe they're the same and I'm confused with the 7 GTA (a bit much to remember in 1 day).

Also test drove a Subaru STI S204 (Ver 6 GC8G). I was told this car made 320hp stock. I'm guessing at the fly since it didn't feel anywhere near as fast as that 330whp 8MR.
Boxer has a bit more torque and pull than the stock evos, but I can't comment on handling comparison, since I only really took it for squirts on straight roads.

Was taken for a drive in a friend's evo 6.5 (TME) and STI Spec C (Ver 6). The Spec C was slightly faster (just dragging at the lights). Both cars were stock, with only mods being air filter and exhaust (both turbo back).

Anyway, favourite of the lot is the 8 MR (although the S204 felt faster...I'm biased and like the inline 4s). The car is very easy to drive fast - heaps of computer aids, so not really all that raw (less fun?)

I can't really comment on the 6.5 (TME), since I didn't drive it.

Sorry I can't be more specific. I only took these cars out for about 10 to 15 minutes at a time.

On a final note. I HEAR from word of mouth ONLY, that once modified, there is no real difference between the 8 and 9, since you can't really feel the MIVEC kick in (again, I can't certain this, since I haven't driven an evo 9 before.)
