was it the series 2 vt's that first got the ls1?
Im looking at selling the good ol' vl and i do mcfuk all km's a week, and i wouldnt mind seeing what all the bullshit fuss is about with these engines :P and its time for a late model car!
the early ones (vt II) had horendus problems with rings bedding in and oil consumption probs didnt they? (probably mainly due to people not running them in properly though??)
would it be much wiser to go for a vx in that case.. does a vx have much else to offer over a vtII?
Im a bit of a late model n00b and they all look the friggen same to me :P what was the most base model car you could get a manual ls1 in when it comes to the commodores, i dont really know what to farken look for, like did the berlina have them, coz i dont need no frills and shit and glitter on it?

I would not bother with a VT mate as you can get a VX fairly cheap these days.
As with any first of its kind car the VTII had some bugs with the first of the Gen3 LS1's.They used the VT and the old 5ltr to sort most of the car out then with the VTII they fitted the LS1 motor. Most of the probs we had where with cold start knock but a few did have oil use probs aswell. This was all fixed with the VX when G.M changed the plant we got them from to another plant (New Mexico I think)
As a side note alot of our blocks are the Z06 vet block with more webbing inside and have a rep to be better alround than the "stock" LS1 block. You can check if you have a Z06 block just look for the numbers stamped into the back right handside of the motor up near the head if you are looking from the front (To do this you will need a small mirror) take down the number then look it up on the net. Most ozzie cars have them.
Lowest spec LS1 was the Exec afew came with the (T56) 6speeds but its not at all the norm and would take a lot of looking to find one.
Your best bet would be to look for a SS 6 speed or if you realy realy want a base mod with a 6'er look for a T56 and do a swap.Boxes do come up on LS1.com.au a fair bit so getting ones not going to be to hard.
So long as your there I would also get your self a Texralia clutch if you plan on getting some K.W out of it later.
There very very easy to get power out of without sending your self broke so your bound to have alot of fun with it.
P.S any other info you want just holla mate.
