Full Throttle Friday Events At W S I D Now Opened To All Licensed Drag Racers In Test & Tune Extension Of Opportunity!

Monday, 24 September 2007 - Posted by Dean Neal
(Sydney, NSW) Full Throttle Fridays return to Western Sydney International Dragway on Friday, November 2 - and this time they will be harder on the hammer than ever before, with the announcement by WSID Administration this week that all licensed ANDRA Drag Racers will be welcome to test/participate at all Friday Night events scheduled!

"We appreciate that Sydney's Drag Racing fraternity are supporting our track events in massive numbers, as evidenced by more than 250 entries at this weekend's Bracket Attack," remarked WSID MD Tony Beuk.

Of course, if you own a Street Legal Car, you will be welcome as always to rip down the quarter mile, just like our hugely popular Wicked Wednesdays!

However, if you are an ANDRA Licensed Drag Racer, you are also welcome to participate at our Full Throttle Fridays, with no limits whatsoever this season, with the exciting opportunity to test/grudge race heads-up with no DYO arrangements.

There are no noise or Elapsed Time restraints whatsoever!

"In fact, depending on the success of the currently scheduled Friday events until February next year, if they are as successful as we hope, we anticipate adding additional events after this time. I think the mix of Off Street Drag Racing, with the hard edge of any ANDRA Drag Racer participating in a heads-up grudge format should really work well."

Beuk is also mindful of continual improvement in the track preparation aspects moving forward and sees the addition of more genuine test opportunities as important for the officials and track staff, as much as for the competitor base in New South Wales.

"I have spoken to our track prep staff and I do not want them to hold back in traction compound and the way these events are run. They are an ideal test bed for our major events on the WSID Calendar. In fact, I want Western Sydney International Dragway to have the reputation as a racer's track that's consistently the quickest and fastest in the country. I want our racers to be excited about racing here at all times!"

Interestingly, the WSID Managing Director already has made some clear future plans for the racing surface.

"I have already flagged after discussing with competitors during our recent events that the track is very good to 330-feet and again its good past a thousand feet, however there are some issues between those areas on the surface (mid-track). I would suggest it's on the agenda again to regrind portions of the track to continually improve the concrete areas in particular. Frankly, I can envisage annual track grinds to deal with any issues that arise and remove old rubber and imperfections as they arise. I am very serious and committed on this point."

In fact, with the introduction of Full Throttle Fridays into the Sportsman Drag Racing mix this season at Western Sydney International Dragway, a Supercharged Outlaws, Super Sedan or Modified Drag Racer for example can now participate in the following event activities looking forward from here for this season:

September 29 - Bracket Attack
October 20 - Bracket Attack
November 2 - Full Throttle Friday
November 10 - Supernats
November 17 - Test & Tune
November 24 - Bracket Attack
December 2 - Nostalgia (for some applicable racers)

April 27 - Test & Tune
May 2&3 - Nitro Champs
May 18 - Sport Compak Attack (for some applicable racers)
June 1 - Bracket Attack

"I know there are some who wish for even more testing opportunities than this, however we are a venue that has an excellent relationship with the NSW State Government and we will not cut corners. We insist in making sure our events are run safely so that no-one is jeopardised. However, if the competitor interest in our event schedule is overwhelming, then of course we would examine additional events as testing opportunities if required."

With other goodies set to be implemented to hype out the Full Throttle Friday events this season - including a strong promotional push with our radio partner Austereo, WSID will be Full Throttle in every way imaginable!

Don't forget, the first official Full Throttle Friday will be on Friday November 2, with Competitors paying $50 for entry at the gate, Spectators $20 and racing action commencing from 6pm until 11pm.

Rained out, any word on whether we are going to see a more immediate reschedule or is it still 3-4 weeks away?
