Hey Guys,
I've got a 1990 EA Fairmont that I've been given, I was wondering if you'd be able to help me with a few pointers.
- I've been told to scrap the 3.9ltr MPFI engine and to pick up a good 2nd hand EF/EL 4.0ltr, your suggestions on that please?
- I'm looking at doing some pretty serious modifications to the engine, most likely will be turboing her up, been looking at the GT35/40R turbo, running at about 13-15 psi boost.
Would greatly appreciate it if you could help me out.
Thanks

Mate ditch that motor EA motors have a carry over crank of a 250X lacking in
balance weights and harmonics not too good 4 revving, I'm using my EF block
but if you got the bucks get an AU bottom end it has cross bolt mains but weaker rods so you'd want to get an atomic rebuild kit H-Beams Forged slugs etc, otherwise get an EB-EL engine and get an ACL kit... hope this helps

Ok thanks. Well I've also got a Hyundai Excel which I'm now going to sell, so with the money i get back from that, probably $2500-$3000 I'll be spending on the car. I live in Brisbane, any idea's on pricing of an EB-EL engine. And would it be wiser to buy a 5 speed manual, or just keep the transmission that I've got?
what are your palns for your falc?? if its just a cruiser a manual will be fine but for drag racing i would suggest a strong auto! if you are building the motor you should be asble to get a good el/f XR motor for a reasonable price.

Just cruising mainly, but I love driving an auto though, so much more easier! :P
But would it be easier to just sell both the Hyundai and the EA, and buy a newer model, like an EL Falcon/Fairmont/Fairmont Ghia? Or keep the EA body, and just put in an EB/ED engine in her?
edit; Plans: installing a ball-bearing turbo, intercooler, lowering, paint job, mags, exhaust system, pod filter, etc

Dude i'll just say 3 grand aint gonna get you nowhere you cant even get a manifold to mount the turbo for under $1000 bucks, then theres the turbo itself $2-3000 intercooler, 500+, Piping 500+, engine managment $2000+, shit man i could go on 4 days, go way over 15 grand without any labour costs! just for the stuff you mentioned is a lot of money if we could all have that setup for 3000 grand everyone would do it and there are always hidden costs so if you dont have $20000 up your sleeve to start off with dont start at all trust me it will sit and collect dust otherwise

Well Yeh but all of those prices you quoted are all retail prices... I can get parts a lot cheaper than those from where I work, plus labour isn't an issue I'm good mates with a few performance mechanic's so that is taken care of...
The money side isn't much of an issue either so yeh ^^
