i get lifter noise after i have been driving for about an hour. Car is a 5sp with standard diff gears and sits on 2300 2400rpm on 100km/h. It also happens sometimes when i give it a bit. I have had 3 whole sets of lifters replaced now from 2 different performance workshops and 1 motor reconditioner. I am using normal every day penrite oil (cant remember what thickness it is). I have normal oil pressure and temp..
Motor specs.
Stage 2 crow cam.
forged pistons/rods.
haltech engine management
standard vale springs and lifters.

I used to get this problem with the thicker oils like penrite. Try a thinner oil like Valvoline. Its cheap and its good. I used to get far better oil pressure with plain old XLD than most other oils. My lifter noises just about dissapeared too. Especialy on cold start ups! Also did the guys clean the rocker boxes properly? and when you had the new cam installed was it nessasary to machine the boxes? Most cams require material to be taken from the lower surface of the rocker boxes, to allow clearance.

i had the same problem when i first bought my car, then i changed the oil and its running smooth now, i used Penrite HPR-40. another thing, your tappets/lifters could be scored that also causes a rattle noise...

You will find that with forged pistons you may get a bit of piston slap on startup due to the heads sitting a tad higher. You may want to be care ful that its not just the sound of of a bit of 'slap'from the forgies and it could in fact be quite normal.

May not be such an issue as you think. Just something to think of...

hey dude if ur rockers and lifters and push rods are not after market or standard you will find with a new cam with more lift n shit depending on the size it will make some noise becoause the lifters and rockers are use to a stocko camshaft and now that they move more they need to wear in, i just recently helped my gf`s dad replace his 40-80 cam out of a 253v8 with a standard one and now they tap n ping or wateva like crazy coz they were so use to a huge lift, and then again also wen taking lifters pushrod and rockers out u should leave them all in a container of new thin oil because i think lifters do induce oil and possibly pushrods so if ur constantly changing oil etc thats probly why, get urself a set of roller rockers and new push rods you most likly will find all that will eliminate ur problem.

its an rb30.. live with it lol

pushrods! you own one of these cars? (according to you picture) they are OHC, there are no pushrods!

the new crow stage1/2 cams are a new profile and according to them they dont require material to be shaved off the lifter bosses.

roller rockers! jesus mate, its an rb30, not a 308, there isnt anything aftermarket like that available, nor is it needed. If it had a HUGE solid in it, you could machine the lifter pad off the rocker and put an adjusting nut there and make your own, but it would want to be a bloody big cam to worry about that.

change oil, see if that changes it.

its not a really noisey injector or anything like that either, and is it 100% coming from the head?
