do I need to do something fancy to be allowed to race at calder park?
I assume the car will do roughly 18 seconds. maybe 20.

Well how fast are you trying to go ? and do you still want to drive it on the street ?
First thing that will give you the most speed is taking weight out of the car. Then tyres. After that you really need to rebuild the whole car to get any good speed from it.

i just want to see what its like to race down the 1/4 mile
not going for times or nothing
couldn't give a shit what time I did
So go to a track and find out. Make sure you watch some other cars stage first to see how it all works, most people don't and take 5 attempts to stage the car, it's not that hard lol
Just have a go, learn how to do it all, then you can build a race car later on or, does not matter how fast you are.
just go and have fun that is what its all about...

Ill actually try to help find you an answer.
You dont need 'fancy' things to race. There are just a few precautions that you need to make sure you have before you take your car out, ring up calder park raceway to double check.
Then give it heaps! Racing is the best fun.
