Cant wait to see this making its way down the princes soon ;) ... my gas jet is all ready now too and finally tuned (just had a slight mishap with destroying the converter  )
wheels look ace on the car! got them at the right time too, nearly impossible to get a set for the next few months, and more and more people have been asking about them too

the gronk i miss the old XE thats for sure, you miss the turbo (and lpg) when u drive a stock brick 302 XR8, but a lot of mods have made the XR8 a great car, 347ci is very nice, next step is supercharging, but its a long while away, dont wanna make johns car look to slow ;)
thanks guys .
you wouldn't belive it but the car is ready to be painted it's been ready for a week and i need another 2lt of tangelo and guess what house of kolor are out of stock till early november i'm bleeding nothing ever goes right .
hey Nick how's things? don't worry about making me look slow it wont be that hard the car is on L.P.G and everyone knows you can't go fast on GAS :)

hey there ,i am from british columbia canada ,i came across your vid and that thing looks really clean ,what made u go with that combo ,any details on it ,i am currently finishing my resto -mod 64.5 convert stang, twin turbo(t-67's) 331 ci dart block (hope to make over 1000rwhp),everything will be black ,no chrome ,except polished hre 542's 18 and 19 inch rims, good luck on the build :)
i wanted to do something diffrent i bought the mustang and was originally going to put an 8 in it but i realised thats what everyone does all mustangs pretty much look the same so i opted for a turboed 6 , the engine has h-beam rods forged pistons head studs the usual stuff turbo is a garrett gt42 800roller 9in 3.23gears and a c-10 with manual valve body and it runs on LPG got the same engine in a car over here that makes 450rwkw and runs 9.97 but the car weighs 3500pounds i'm looking to make around 500rwkw and the mustang weighs about 400pounds lighter so i'll just have to wait and see.
do you have any pic's of your car... tt64vert

Full credit to ya mate that stang looks awesome! the attention to detail in the engine bay is excellent. Whats the deal with the exhuast just before it splits into two? looks like it goes from 3 1/2" down to 3" then out into twin 2 1/2" or is it just the photo that makes it look that way? Any modifications been done to the gas tank to flow that amount of gas? ie. twin outlets?
thats a hell of an impressive job there!
correct me if im worong but isnt the engine an i6, pulled out of an e-series ford (excluding the turbo obviously).. if so well done they are a great engine to work with and respond real well to turbos.
Coming along very nicely john, will be INSANE when its finished :)

looks awesome mate, how long till she's up and going??
looking unreal john, how long til its going?
it's at the auto elec's now i'll get it back just after new year then it's just finish up the interior like padding up the cage then suspension and thats about it to be honest i'm looking around mid feb if everything goes to plan but you know aswell as i do it never does.
how you traveling with your's George how long now.
hey i saw the that MRZXF for the first time on the road in years down st kilda last night
goes to MK Auto on tuesday to get the cooler pipes, dump pipe and a few other things done, so im hoping by xmas/new years its out
Um excuse me EZY10 but is your other car the blue XF that was in ZOOM a while back??
Good stuff! I'm looking at doing something similiar in my cortina, what size supply lines and throttle body are you using? i take it you have twin B2 convertors?
480carb standard supply line i think 5/16 and 2 b2's
What sort of bottom end do you have in yours?? I was thinking of using an ACL rebuild kit but and studs through-out and maybe a girdle in the bottom end too. I would like to aim for 300+rwkw, in a set up like this bottom end preparation would be first and foremost i gather?
i have custom rods in my bottom end and just standard bottom end bolts , you should be able to make that sort of power with an engine like that but i'm not sure if the standard rods will hold up .
What sort of power is yours making?? I've been thinking about giving some of my engine internals the cryogenic treatment. Cant be too much of a bad thing. Or there is custom rods but they can blow a budget out pretty easy.
Have you got a locked dizzy on yours or do run some sort of advance mechanism??
there is custom rods out there but there not cheap .
mines not running yet not sure what power it will get i'm hoping to make about 400-500 rwkw

kakimoto
26-07-07, 06:43 PM
it said somewhere it ran the same mph the xe ran on its 9.9 pass
yeah the car ran 11.9 lol pretty shit time but good mph the last run 133.87mph and went 103 to mid track the best the xe ever did was 1.44 60ft 111mph mid track and 9.97@133 so yeah all indications point to around 140+ mph once sorted hopfully
had problems with the convertor it wouldn't come up too tight.
Really nice car and I hope you get the 1/4 times it deserves.. Nice MPH. It's looking good for the times you want! I hope you have good luck sorting it out. Well done on the build I love it.
this car is pure sex!
the quality of the work done is a credit to you
are you using twin lines from the tank to each converter?
or just a single line?
will be good to see the results in the future ;)

Bloody hell what a bugger... Good to see you getting it back on the road again... One of my favorite cars... Good luck....
Will you still be using modified gas lock offs, tank etc. or will this gas install be done properly ie legally this time? Might limit power a bit but less likely to go bang again!
Will you still be using modified gas lock offs, tank etc. or will this gas install be done properly ie legally this time? Might limit power a bit but less likely to go bang again!
Who said it was done illegal the lock offs were never modified champ the car is 100% enginered and legal should keep your theorys to yourself expert and don't worry about power mate there more than enough left ...
intresting to see you have only made 2post and one i was to be a cocky prick to me do i know you or something ??
There are lots of gas experts out there and they all seem to have trouble replicating your results with legal (unmodified) set ups. On many different forums you have descibed your gas setup wich has been replicated by others only to make leess power due to restricted gas flow. Now you being a gas expert ( or should i say Jason) must have found some secret that no one else has! I just think its interesting that this big hp gas car that seems to flow an unlimited, unresticted amount of gas is also one that has gone bang! I like this car and appreciate the work that has gone into it, the attention to detail is awsome. But this whole standard unmodified gas system bullsh*t is getting old. In your earlier post you say you've got a single gas line but dont no what size. Then in later posts you say you got twin lines, which is it? And if you built the car why dont you know?
the mustang made 470 kw johns run about has made over 500kw and is out every weekend i see it with my own eyes its hard to miss that sexy bonnet
i dont doubt the power at all just be honest how you make it. Guys out there look up to cars like this and try to emulate there performance and when gas installers fall short off these power figures they get a bad name on internet forums. Gas instalers follow stricked guidlines with there installs to stay on the right side of the law. Others dont care to much for the law.

were do i say i've only got a single line i've always used twin lines and just because you and everyone else can't get there tank to flow enough doesn't mean it can't be dont .
and what makes you think just because my car had big hp out of gas thats the reason it went bang it had nothing to do with the gas system for your infomation, think what you want but keep your opinions to yourself when you dont know the facts and don't make assumptions not cool .

Theres a simple way to get that much power from twin lines. I dont see a problem with those power figures. Barryo, get your facts straight
xyfalconsrock will now explain in detail the simple way you get 400+rwkw from your legal unmodified gas setup.( please include part names, part numbers, line sizes etc.)
You give yourself away EZY10 with the statement "because you and everyone else can't get there tank to flow enough doesn't mean it can't be done".
What "NEEDS TO BE DONE"?
If you get it to flow with unmodified parts the other guys dont use or dont know about thats fine. But when you modify gas parts you break the law ther are australian standards involved wich are very stricked.
I dont want to upset anyone here and im not some tri hard kid crying over my 4ltr wondering where all my killa wasps went. I would love to be proved wrong!

Lol you make me laugh what you want me to just hand over to you over the net how to get that much power out of a lpg tank with out modifying it yeah right keep dreaming look i wont lie but my xf had been modified to flow enough gas and yes you can say it was not the right or the legal way to do it but that was 8yrs ago alot has changed since then i don't seen what your problem is here why you getting so emotional about all this ???

Barryo - Theres a lot of people out there that spend many hours in R & D to find ways of making many combinations work on their cars. MOst of these people run/own business's, so its their bread n butter. SO dont go getting all offended when they wont 'hand over' their trade secrets....
ie: Johns gas system. Heres an idea, contact the guys who tune fit and tune his car, book in your car (if you even own something half decent) PAY THEM TO DO IT TO YOURS... Then your ass is covered "LEGALLY".... ey?
Well put:)
it's funny how people get shitty and bag people when there jealous coz they can't get something to work...

Why the fark should he tell you?
Ive had enough of these tightarses demanding answers and not spending a cent and wanting all this GAS KNOWLEDGE for free. The GAS boys keep their cards close to their chests cos they spend so much money developing there vehicles to make this much power. By making 2-3 little LEGAL changes to my setup my power went up from 230rwkw to 320rwkw. John has made 150rwkw more than me, i can only imagine the time, money and development it took him to get it there.
And who gives a fark about legal or illegal. You might as well have a go at the bloke for having an intercooler and pod filter, becoz thats also illegal.
These "professional" LPG fitting places cant make the power, now this dude has worked it out and should keep it close to his chest.
How about you fork out the cash this bloke has spent developing his vehicle and then tell everyone your winning combination!

Hey man, good to see the 'stang coming back - and looks like it'll be even better than before :) It'll be great to see it on the road - hopefully sometime soon :)
I feel your pain re things taking so long. It's always an issue when you're waiting on others
I just read this whole thread - It's disappointing to hear negative comments when it comes to pushing the performance barrier. I agree with what you're saying. It seems that if people can't achieve something that someone else has done, they have to look for negative reasons. - I feel your pain with this too!

Well they're not really 'experts' are they?
I've got a tuner here in NSW who is pretty apt and can screw power out of cars using lpg LEGALLY that others will fall short trying.
There is a reason for that and for people like John and Jason being able to and others not.
Most Gas installers are in it for the $$$$$. No point trying to understand something if the $$$$ is all you care about. Others are in it for the love, experience and knowledge.
I have called John to ask him a couple of questions and found him to be very open and helpful. He has a nice and friendly manner and wasn't afraid to guide me with my own set up.
The way you're carrying on is very flippant and almost brattish. Ease up mate and enjoy the progress and look out for the results. Be nice and who knows, they may even share it with you if you go and meet them or give them a call.
Don't be alarmed if you can't screw the same power out of it.
Small example.
There's a popular installer in NSW in the inner western subs. He's been doing it for years and everyone pretty much turns to him.
My mate thinking that he would be the best to go to took his car there for a simple conversion to a standard BA.
All said and done, the thing was terrible to drive, bad on consumption, kept backfiring and popping hoses. Numerous times later and almost $700.00 on top of the $3500 conversion price his car was still a dud.
He was about to light a match to his car cause he hated it that much until I convinced him as a final straw to go see my mate.
Half a day later and the car was back to him running 10 times better.
More power which was instant, better consumption, smoother idling, better response, no backfiring, no popping hoses and $200.00 later my friend was that happy he wanted to give him more.
What did he do? Nothing much... no secret at all. Just did the things a SERIOUS gas installer would know about.
Anyway, can't wait for this thing to come back to life. Heard it's gonna be even sexier!
Cheers
Wes

Bit of hoo hah in this thread about tank flow, so I might clear it up some, try help some fellow LPG users achieve better power.
440rwkw of tank flow is less than 300$ of bolt in valve parts from APA, and will fit in any 4 hole tank, apa or manchester, that'l do 400rwkw even with crap automix on a cold day......with stock 100% legal parts.
Tickle the two lockoff seats, and she is good for much more, the trouble is that once you hit about 500rwhp the tank press drops during sustained runs and you will see reduced output over a few dyno runs.
I have posted up the details on setting up a twin outlet tank on three other forums, search my usename possibly on ford or x series related forums..., about 2 years ago I was playing with these steel tanks, the info is on three forums and one website, so its around if you look hard enough, I wouldn't want to post it in here, as its not my thread.
But that stuff is old news, alloy tanks are the way forward, if anyone is after a nice alloy tank, built to suit whatever your needs are-multiple outlets, etc, GUY OBREN 0415443432, tell him Charlie from the ACT sent you.

i dont doubt the power at all just be honest how you make it. Guys out there look up to cars like this and try to emulate there performance and when gas installers fall short off these power figures they get a bad name on internet forums. Gas instalers follow stricked guidlines with there installs to stay on the right side of the law. Others dont care to much for the law.
Most gas installers don't care about your car or what you want, they just want there money.
You can achieve legal high power, any gas installer could just ring up APA and figure it out for themselves with a 5 minute phone call, if they are unable to do that, then why shouldn't they get a bad rep on the internet when they said they could deliver and then can't? I have met only one gas installer that didnt treat me like an idiot, the rest have been know it all pricks, now that guy is retired....so I say, rubbish them all on the net if they can't deliver, most of them know nothing about high power, they only care about taxi's, etc.
If you had half a brain you would have read the LPG guide on this very forum and found a legal way to make good power, douche.
Sorry for whoring your thread John.

The motor was stripped down coz i had the inlet manifold off at the time of the fire and all the shit from the fire extinguisher went in side after i rebuilt it i put it in my EL xr6 and just R&D the motor it made 530rwkw in the xr this new setup is abit of a differnt combo so have to wait and see what this one does the car will also have new interior diffrent colour and all leather this time ..

Quick question for you guys, what kind of pressure differential are you seeing across the GRA mixer at full noise and max rpm? Or what variation in afr do you see across the whole range of useable boosted RPM?
My setup is showing large pressure drop from when boost starts up to max rpm, changing the afr by almost a full point, I'm running more cubes but have two mixers. Leads to it being set up slightly lean at low rpms and slightly rich at high rpms.
The GRA mixers really don't flow very well in stock form. Did you guys play with the mixer at all?

what sort of pressure drop are you getting from the 2 gra carbys
i was getting around 3psi drop from the carby i wasn't really getting any variation's afr , how much boost you running?
ltd351t
22-12-09, 08:32 PM
On 300 cubes it was 12psi intake press, starting at 4500rpm was 14.0 afr, top end approaching 7000rpm, dipping 13.0 afr. With venturi systems that straight up cries for more mixer flow, but then I see your setup, and wonder why it shows no change in venturi restriction over the useable rpm range.
Pressure drop, never measured, assumed high, not so much at lower levels but certainly up top, balance line pressure rising with rpms, have thought about reducing pickup's angle, but that hurts the initial responce of the balance line system. May have make converters feed easier, and reduce pickups angle. It still does the same thing anyway, just not as bad.
I think I lack mixer flow, but the results you guys have throw me off.
When did you see the 3psi drop? max power? Be good to compare mine to that, should be going again by the nats, buts its a new engine so old data not relevant.

Quick question for you John, whats the most power you have ever seen an LPG car make? I remember hearing figures of 620rwkw but I'm not sure?
not sure really i haven't heard of anyone really making over 500rwkw the most i ever made was 556rwkw looks like your going to be the one with the most power i saw your car at the nats alot of hours spent on it i see,how did you get it all to fit must have been a nightmare , are you looking to race it or anything?

Yeah, was hard to fit, hence cutting up the front end/towers, etc.
Was built primarily as dyno and burnout car, as we have no local strip, when I have some money to get it setup for the strip will race it, but I don't expect it to be very fast.
looking good john, love the pics of the latest progress!
Wondering how hard it was to get the 4L in there?
In the engine bay shots you can see the towers have been notched, but it would appear that clearance is only a problem near the turbo? Looks like there is heaps of room otherwise.

not hard at all if you look at the earlier pic's the engine fit without the towers been notched all you need is to make engine mounts..

Can you post pics of your rear end mate???
In the videos you seem to be taking off on 6000rpm and you only rev your car to 70000rpm.
My guess is that you peak torque is well below 6000.
I wouldnt be game letting the go of the transbrake button on my car at 6000rpm and 30 psi.

i'm leaving the line at about 5000rmp but it's not turning the tyres on take off it's just after it just unloads the tyres as boost builds up
