She was hit in the face with a clutch dics looked pretty bad , also one of the dics ended up going thru the back wall of the shed after hitting the door of my mates car.(thats about 150m from the start line )

It was a freak accident and it was lucky no one else was seriously hurt. The lady who got hit received more than 20 stitches and will most likely require some plastic surgery.

I was standing near her and consider myself lucky me or one of my friends were not hit as there was a fair bit of big pieces flying around. I believe the car had a ballistic blanket covering the box so you gotta wonder, how did an incident like this happen when the safety requirements were in place. Is it a rotary specific issue?

the reason it happened is that it was supposed to have a clutch can made of steel or titanium not a cast bellhousing . This car should not have past scruntinering ANDRA need to explain how it got thou as they were checking the cars not Heathcote Park

my car is teched and andra do not have to explain anything .. it met all andra requirements and thats that . im sorry to all people that got hit i wish you all a speedy recovery . what happened was out of my hands (mechanical failure) im sure that andra will change some rules about blankets but thats for them to do not us .. and andra do not check all the cars. only a percentage of them get picked. when you fill your entry in you tick all the safety questions. if you race andra meetings you would know .. thanks to all the people and the andra officials on the day for your help

2006/2007 ANDRA rule book.

Section 4.2.6 Flywheel Shields / Bellhousings

Paragraph two:

NB: A ballistic blanket meeting SFI 4.1 may be used as a shield on vehicles where there is no commercially available steel bellhousing.

I am not a man in the know, but I would question whether there is a commercially available steel bellhousing to suit a 13B to a liberty box.

Secondly, I cant believe that they did random auditing if they did. For a start, it is a temporary/regional track, thus attracting a 100% audit. Secondly, it is a bracket meeting, thus attracting a 100% audit. Third, it is in Victoria, the shared state of no ANDRA drag racing. Some vehicles may not have run since the last VDRC meeting or earlier.

Andrew, sorry to see it end like that, was really looking forward to seeing the car boogie. What is the plan for attack for the car now? I saw it for sale just prior to the meeting. Looked like it needed to be back halved. Hope it doesnt keep you from the track in or on something else for too long.

Andrew this was not directed at you it was directed at Andra . I have raced for over 20 years everything from street cars thou to group one and have seen this happen far too often.Andra have let the sport down in many ways from Promotion to safety and this is just another example. To say that you could run a blanket was a wrong decision by them as l have seen first hand what a clutch does to the inside of a steel can so there is noway a blanket
would keep it in . We need more cars like yours in our sport to bring young
people in and hopefuly we will see you back soon

thats all good thanks ... it was all stress there for a while i did not care about my car. I was praying that all the people that had been hit with parts where going to be ok . and i hope the lady that had been hit is recovering well i wish her a quick recovery .. i have had the worst luck ever i think . im going to give it one more go . lets hope next time out it all holds together . the car will be getting back half by jl race cars then my new STEEL belhousing will get made by graphic skills then rebuild my torn up engine then rebuild my smashed up g force gear box then replace my back tyres and get a good direct clutch .. that might take a little while i look forward to getting back out there thanks agine to al the people that have called and wished me luck cheers
