At World Time Attack 2011, it was proved once again that the ADVAN A050 (http://clixtrac.com/goto/?54082) is the world’s fastest tyre. In the two horse Evo race, the high horse power & big budget Sierra Sierra Enterprises team was hitting 290km/h down the main straight at Eastern Creek. 30km/h faster than the CyberEvo. Yet the CyberEvo still managed to win the event with an incredible time of 1:28.81.

The Yokohama ADVAN A050 has 2 major strengths. Outright speed, and maintaining this speed after many heat cycles and wear. This rings true for both the soft and medium compounds in various applications ranging from Time Attack, Hill Climbs and Tarmac Rallies.

Tarmac rallies require speed and tyre durability. In 2011 competitors using ADVAN A050s filled the first two places in the Targa Tasmania Early Modern Class, came second in the Modern Class, won the Showroom Class and the EV Challenge.

In a recent interview with Victoria’s Yokohama Motorsport dealer, Andrew McCathie he states, “Targa Tasmania really is a gruelling event that demands a lot from your tyres. Many customers comment on the excellent return performance over many heat cycles showing very little drop off in speed.”

Mark Berry of the ADVAN/HiOctane R34 GT-R had similar words to share regarding the Time Attack discipline: “The ADVAN A050 (http://clixtrac.com/goto/?54082) is the superior tyre for all levels of time attack. We have tested all ranges of compounds and have found the lap times from new to worn out are very consistent in the A050 compared to any other R-Spec tyre. The ADVAN A050 is the only tyre to choose when you want to win.”

The Yokohama ADVAN A050 was used by 5 of the 7 fastest cars and by all of the top 4 fastest Australian teams at World Time Attack 2011 (http://clixtrac.com/goto/?54083). Yokohama Australia would like to congratulate the CyberEvo team, for becoming the Yokohama World Time Attack Champions for the second year in a row, Yokohama Japan for making the ADVAN A050 the World’s Fastest Time Attack tyre again, and all competitors, spectators and traders and volunteers for making World Time Attack 2011 the event that it was.

The Yokohama ADVAN A050 has 2 major strengths. Outright speed, and maintaining this speed after many heat cycles and wear.

At WTAC many teams (especially those with bigger budgets) changed for new tyres in just about every session. Seems they were getting optimum performance out of one heat cycle only. This may well be across the board for all tyre makers but it differs from the statement quoted.

For a one lap flyer green tyres are supposed to be a fraction faster because the uncured rubber is stickier. But it’s not good for the tyres. You see the tread surface gets hotter faster than the carcass and the tyre grows unevenly. In additional heat cycles this tyre would not perform as well and would be in more danger of breaking or delaminating than a tyre that was treated properly.

For normal use in supersprints and especially for competitors who need optimum performance over a number of heat cycles the tyres should be cured by gradually bringing them up to temperature in the first heat cycle. They can do this with a lap of the track at 50% speed, a road drive or even in an oven. This is done so the tyre heats up evenly as a whole. Rubber has a memory and in future uses the tyre will heat up in this same manner.
